Probably been beat to death, but I currently have Swepco in my '87 and hope a move to Synthetic will improve shifting, especially cold. Any suggestions for upgrade? Thanks,

Don, We talked about this several months ago. I switched to Kendal synthetic and used the LSD addative. Huge differance. Try searching terms like: Kendall, LSD, G50, synthetic. The specific type of synthetic is mentioned once or twice.
EDIT: here is the best thread on the subject. It gets good after 5 or 6 pages....

For what it's worth, I use Redline in my G50 and have been very pleased with the performance. It had the typical case of G50 rattle which the Redline improved noticably. No problems with shifting cold or hot.

When I bought my 87 Carrera 6 years ago, I proceeded to service everything on the car since I didn't have the greatest records from the previous owner. One of the first things I did was change the oil and transmission fluid. I mistakenly put Swepco(misinformed) in the transmission and noticed a dramatic change in the ease at which I used to shift the transmission. After posting on this site, I was told the G50 transmissions don't like the Swepco lubricant, specifically the syncros, and was told to try a synthetic fluid like Mobil One or Redline. I changed it the next day and my car has shifted smooth as silk ever since. I would highly recommend the Mobil 1 transmission lubricant. ![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)

I too have read that Redline NS or Mobile One are the preferred suspects. Redline works fine for me. Still notchy when cold but smooth thereafter. Next time I'll put in Mobile One just to see if there is any difference.

Hi,
I can't comment about the G50 box but I know the lubricant Steve mentions very well
M1 Delvac 75w-90 is a very durable lubricant. I ran it for 1m kms (620k miles) oil change intervals in a number of my heavy trucks (Class 8 ) diffs
At regular Used Oil Analysis it had always retained its viscosity and it never lost its Anti Wear and Anti Corrosion (TBN) abilities
