Default Crazy Turning Signals

While driving last night, I noticed as I was making lane changes, my turning signals were acting funny. When I would press the lever left or right, sometime the opposite signal would blick on the dash board. And sometimes both would blick.

When I got home, I found that the exterior lights were working correctly. It was only the interior signals that were doing this. Any ideas?

My first thought was that there is a problem with the turning signal stalk.

Does the emergency flasher work normally? I would suspect that the problem is in the turn signal switch. In my experience flasher units typically just die and you get nothing or they get stuck on.

My 77 911S would blink both lights on the dash but the correct ones outsiide. It was this way for all 15 years I owned the car. I never figured it out and it never got worse.

The emergency flashers work normally. This morning I hit a bump and it seemed to work for a while again. Then it went back to crazy signals. Maybe a loose ground or something?

I'm still thinking it is something in the switch in the column or wiring to it. You may also have a look under the hood at the connections at the relay in the fuse box.

Rule #1. Check all fuses and rotate them back and forth. My stalk seemed to do the same thing in my 88 cab, but the high beams also malfunctioned. I saw some meltin of the plastic within the points in the stalk, so replaced the stalk and solved the problem. Slate a half day to do the job.
