Default Refurbishing the window regulator...just gave up.

Man oh man how much time I put into it and then just gave up. I tried to fix a rattle in the door. I opened up the panels, put some grease the first time thinking it would dampen the noise. Closed it all back up, and the rattle persists. Opened it up a second time this weekend, pulled the whole regulator out and bought a drill to dig the rivets out. After going through four sets of generic plastic rollers from Home Depot and using a high speed drill to get them to the right size to fit I just give up. Porsche you win, I will buy a whole new regulator because I cannot replicate your stupid rivet design.

Porsche 1, Oshin 0

I spent over 100 dollars in a drill, metallic bits, rollers etc.... For 55 dollars I got a used regulator from DC Automotive.

Oshin, sometimes you just have to except the fact that the pros like Droops, Pete, Steve, and a long, long, long, list of others know what they are talking about. Sometimes us new guys just gotta do as instructed and let the car win. I spent a fortune in various tools yesterday to do a very simple job that a pro could have done in 20 minutes with a 20 year old tool that came with the car. Ya gotta listen to the pros.

In reference to your rattle problem. I use to drive an old VW (another german wonder) and I found a great, cheap, and effective way to deal with rattles, squeaks, and other odd noises:

Jokes aside I feel your pain in not being able to fix the problem yourself and having to buy a new part. I feel the pain of defeat with you. Don't worry, you'll win the next one. And from reading your other posts it's not Porsche 1 Oshin 0, it's more like Porsche 1 Oshin 23.

Cheers!

Its ok I dont mind buying the used part, it just would have been cool to have found a way to easily refurbish it and have shared the new-found knowledge with everyone here. I hate rivets with a passion now haha. I guess I will keep the old regulator in the case that something else on the regulator fails. I was able to get the car out for a drive a few days ago, it was glorious So gorgeous outside this past week.

Neri, out back right now in the back yard are two white bunnie rabits chewing on my pigmy date palms, the Russian box turtle has come out of hibernation it's so hot, and every window in the house is open. It's 11:15 and the chiller on my reef tank has just now turned off.

....so what's the differance between LMP1 and LMP2?

LMP1s are supposed to be faster - but they're not Porsches!

Ha, thanks for the props Doug but I don't think I quite belong in the same category as Steve and Pete (my goal is to be someday!), they've both been working on these cars longer than I've been alive! But I do like to share what I do know here if I can.

Oshin, I haven't been reading this stuff much lately, I probably would've said don't even bother trying to fix the regulator just get a new one. But, sometimes it's best to learn the hard way!

By new one do you mean NEW one or just another used one? New ones are 220.00 USD from the dealer. Used ones are 65.00 from DC Auto.

You are mistaken it is 150 for the manual one, 210.00 for the power one. I got mind for 55 USD used at DC Auto....71 dollars shipped.
