Default Widest Fuchs for non-flared '77?

Today I noticed some expert advice on potential use of 944 rims and am reminded of my feeble attempts to fit wider rubber under my non-flared '77.

Right now I love the performance of my low profile 40 series on 16" x 6" Fuchs but they look narrow and wimpy from the rear because too much overhang remains. The tire shop tried and couldn't fit wider Kumhos onto these narrow rims.

Instead of adding more rotating mass with spacers I'm wondering if a wider sized Fuch has been recommended in layman's terms. Actually, I guess larger tires will be heavier than spacers and their weight will be further from the centerpoint. Ugh!

Since I like the performance maybe I should continue to let aesthetics take a back seat.

My car was originally a 1975 911S, narrow body. Ir originally was shod with 6x15 fuchs wheels with 195/65-15 fronts and 205/60 15 rears.
There are two ways to get wider tires without flaring the car. First, is to find some 911R wheels (p/n 901.361.012.05R)-these are 7X15 but have an offset of 49mm and backspace of 138 mm, as compared with the standard 7x15(p/n911.361.020.41) which has a 23.3mm offset and 112mm backspace.
This sets the wheel deeper on the hub, i.e. closer to the body rather than the fender lip. and allows you to run 215/50-15 tires in back.
The other way I did it was to run the 1986 944 turbo fuchs, they were only made for one year, 7x16 (P/n
951.362.115.00) came with 23.3mm offset and 138mm backspace, 8x16 (p/n 951.362.117.00) came with 23.3mm offset and 125mm backspace.
With these I could run track tires of 225/45-16 on the back-but i did have to roll the fender lips-just for track duty not necessary for regular street driving. Stayed with 205 series in front, though it will take 225.
Hope this helps,

Nick

Great info that the '86 951 had 8" x 16" Fuchs that will fit some fat tires under my non-flared '77!

Thanks... and wish me luck as I searh for these...

I have a set that will be going on sale soon. They are the wheels on the gold colored 944, stock 1986 951 Fuchs.

I went with merely 7x15s and I thought they looked very good on my 1977. Going further starts to get into Ricer territory...
