Post Weber carb question

I'm in the process of rebuilding some carbs on a 68' 911L. Soaked the units in carb cleaner overnight and they look wonderful One question though, on the carb covers oneside has some cad plated tubes sticking up and the other side doesn't. Does anybody know what these are? None of the break down drawings I have for Webers show what these are!

Thanks

Ken

Hi Ken:

Just off-hand, I'd say that those are from two different types of IDA's.

The one with the tall float bowl vent tubes were used on the later 40 IDA-series, and the one without the tubes were found on the earliest 40 IDA and 46 IDA ones. Those latter carbs had small squarish screens attached over the bowl vent holes.
