Post Sparco EVO seat installation in an SC

I'm getting ready to install an EVO seat, with slider, in an 81 SC, and am HOPING that, using the Sparco side mounts, that this will be an easy installation. I've heard that seat installs can turn into very time-intensive projects. Anything unique I should be aware of? TIA

Sorry, can't provide an answer, but I am interested in the solution - hence I will bump this up the board.

I have an 89 3.2 which may get race seats before next summer. Can the existing sliders be used with sparco side mounts?

People want to know.

Hey John,

I put 2 EVO 2 seats in my 72 911 this past year. Be aware that the front of the seat is slightly wider then the rear . Let me know if I can help. I'm the guy you saw at PEP Boys this summer. I'll be glad to come over and give you a hand.

And for all of you smarty pants out there ,no I do not buy my 911 parts at Pep Boys but they great deals on oil, cleaners etc.

This can get to be big porject. You didn't mention if the car will be "dual-purpose", and if the OEM stock seat belts will be retained, making this a more detailed project. I helped a friend install a pair of EVo 2's in a 85 widebody, and he used the stock ( from the old seats) sliders. A big triangular piece in the middle of the slider had to be ground off to make it fit the Evo's with the Sparco side mounts. The stock sliders also retained the inboard seat belt receptacle tang which is weldd in-place with the slider. If you use other sliders, you may have to buy a separate tang that then bolts onto the slider and is used to mount the stock receptacle. I believe the 93-94 RSA uses a bolt-in tang design like this, and the tang can be ordered separately from the dealer. Otherwise, the Sparco side mounts and the seats ( when bolted together) fit up nicely with the floor mount perches ( proper width), and no intermediate mounting plate to accommodate a different width was required. Car uses both 5 point racing and stock seat belts.

So, Will is saying that Sparco side mounts will bolt straight on to the stock sliders after grinding off a triangular piece of metal. Have I got that right? No other drilling or grinding required? If so, this sounds straight forward(?).

I would be using the stock belts AND 5 point harness, so keeping the stock sliders is important for me. I would be using the Evo or Rev seats that are narrower than the Evo 2 (which is for 200lbs plus guys). Will confirms that the Evo 2s work. Does anyone have experience with the narrower seats? I am thinking of problems with the spacing between the side mounts.

Thanks,
Richard

Yes, it was basically straight forward once that large piece was ground off. My data point is the stock sliders used for 85's , which lock on both sides. I'm told SC's use different sliders that lock on one side only.
FWIW....I think the EVO 2's ( although "listed" for big, fat 200 lb + guys) is a bit misleading if you think they're only for big guys. I'm 5'8" at about 150 lbs and find these to be great seats. Large guys of course fit well too. Think of cold / warm weather too when buying dual-purpose seats as these. I don't mind being shoved sideways 1/2" during a hard turn, as long as the basic seat shape works to keep you in car control. Perhaps being "snugged-up" is a bit overkill, and a slightly wider seat is still OK.
Yes...the width spacing will likely be affected with the narrower Sparco seats, for which you must use a big horizontal mounting plate to splice in-between. And that adds height. Contrary to what you might think, the Evo 2's did not place your butt closer to the ground compared to stock, however you can remove the bottom upholstery for DE events to get more headroom.
