Hey old man . . .
I tried a search on Pelican. Mixed results. The chip that comes with the kit is NFG & you would have to get a new tuned chip for an increase of 5 hp or so seems to be the consensus.
See Pelican Search for some reading.

Thanks Ian!
I was reading some of those posts last night. It does seem that the chip is crap and that it does not compensate for temperature which to me is important because the car does see colder temps. I think I will just pass.

Hi - I have one of these kits fitted to my 3.2 (euro car). I had to have a new chip as the one supplied is designed for use with US ECU's. However it is always worth getting a new chip done /redone after a major mod as the engine will require an adjustment from the factory mapping. I also upgraded my exhaust and airfilter first, then took the car to a specialist who set up the car on a dyno. The guy told me that the ECU's are all very slightly different and you get the best results from this kind of bespoke set up. The place I used was in the UK but Im sure that there will be similar places in Canada and the US. However the place I think can do a set up from just the ECU - this would involve your removal of the ECU and posting it to him - prob not ideal and I think that you would want to set the car up running on a rolling road, so best to find someone who can do a bespoke chip for you and remap the engine running.
My results are really good - the best measure is in the seat which has a massive noticeable difference, a pile of bhp & torque numbers are impressive on a sheet of paper BUT you need to feel it when you drive it - for what its worth my car produces 261 now. Hope that this is a help to you......

That's right baby, we are the coolest of cool...
Got a great chuckle out of that one.
Also, back to the MAF, will the chip that comes with it need to be different for the 24 vs 28 pin ECU's in the "84-89" range? I know when discussing with Steve Wong, we talked about sending my ECU out for upping to 8k(?) memory vs. the 2k or whatever I have now.
Just askin'.

I remember Oshin11's '87 chip was 24 pin and my '88 has the 28 pin. the seller of that MAF must not know there is a difference.
About the MAXHPkit, I love the way it drives, but.....when I get my valve adjustment buttoned up I am going to take my car in to Pete's old shop for several tests. I may have a bad throtle position switch, or even a MAF going bad, or any number of other things. The idle has never even been set. When I get this all figured out with both the stock chip and the MAXHP chip I'll get back to you on how things really are. I don't think hourse power gains is what these 20 year old cars need. Drivability is where it is at.

I had one on my 88 CAb. It really improves performance and driveability. I would go for it. I sold mine to a guy in Sweden or Norway before I sold my cab. It just bots on, with one wire to connect.

I think the change over from 24 - 28 pin came in MY1986 - however sone later cars were fitted with older ECU's the only way to know for sure is to open up the ECU and count the pins!
As for the K&N the airbox is removed in the engine bay and then where the mesh filter sits on the end of the intake loosen jubilee type crew clip and slide on the K&N and tighten up - done!!!
Its mega.... IMHO!

Well, ther gain in ponies (at least with the Steve Wong chip) and tq is nice too. Particularly on a track like MSR Cresson, that isn't so much a real high speed track, but a bit technical.
