Default Targa brace

Has anyone installed those chrome targa brace that mounts just behind the front seats and attaches to the seatbelt harness?

I've got me a Targa and I asked the engineers I work with if they thought those braces helped; the answer - very doubtful.

I had a harness bar in my 80 SC Targa, which isn't the same. That combined with a strut brace DID stiffen the chasis up a bit.

I looked at the Targa brace that goes from the floor to the seatbelt and didn't see how it would make any difference.

I put them in because they had to do SOMETHING and they look cool!
BTW I have mine for sale since going with a roll bar in the car.
PM me for details

Dont waste your money-no benefit. If you've not gotten much track time, spend the money on a DE and learn to drive the car.

I made a pair of these w/components from OSH. Steel rods covered in black 1/2" hose look cool.
No idea if they work yet, but a fun project.

Yea, I can't really see how those would help. Being that I track my targa most of the time I had a custom rollbar put in, the normal 4 points in the back but I also had them make it so I bolt it to the shoulder belt mount and then put a diagonal door bar up to the front. I didn't want to do a full cage as I didn't want to see the bars when I take the top off.

Found a better one, in this one you can see the tab/tube for the shoulder belt mount, just have longer bolt into the original mounting point.
So I was able to reinstall the original 3 point belts besides the 6 point for the track.

I installed a set of the targa bars a few years ago. I did feel it reduced the cowl shake and quivering a bit. but not a huge stiffening effect.

Now have full bolt in cage. that really stiffened up the chassis. when on a lift you can open and close the doors, no enlarging of the door gap. I remove the front part of the cage for street driving between track events, about 2 hours of wrenching.

pmason.
great roll bar and side bar. I have seen something link that in a couple of targas. but like yours a full weld in job. I have been considering having a side bar made that would bolt into the remaining rollbar and front cage bolting point.

PS. what year / color is your targa. my 85 is called white gold. looks simiar.
