Well, you're doing the right thing to ask. The 1974-77 period is the least desirable of the 911 line-up. They're typically 5K-12K cars, and as such are very good bargain, considering what you get. There are problems with the magnesium case engines that can be addressed in a rebuild, which might have been done here. Rust is also an issue with them. Glancing at one of the pictures, I see that whoever painted it left the engine mounts in for paint -- which points to a bargain basement paint job.

If that was an expensive rebuild, then the previous owner has spent a lot on a car that would be worth, in my opinion, 15-17K on a good day. Why doesn't the description talk about the motor? It looks like that's basically what you're buying, at a premium, with a mid-year car attached as a bunus.

You could buy a LOT more 911 for that kind of money.

They painted the motor mounts? Run! Run far.

ouch Ice, even if that is Canadian coin that hurts.

EDIT: Ice, upon further review you are correct again. I forgot what car it was. Ya gotta admit the motor looks good out of the car. Not Ed Hughes good, but Motormeister good. OK, that was over the line. Bad doug bad.

Is that the way the seats looked in the original? Just curious. Also the drivers side seat looks worn/heavily sweat into in the photo. It looks like it is missing some weatherstripping/seals and has some other interior rubber/plastic age related issues. Some of the car looks like it was "made up" with random parts from my perspective.

I wouldn't want to pay more than mid teens for that vintage, but I like the color. Im not saying its a bad car, but the seller is the one dreaming if they think they can get 30+ for it. This is why I will buy my next 911 from a knowledgeable enthusiast rather than a dealer just waiting for the next person to walk in the door.

Doug...be careful with jokes about the value of Canadian currency these days. Recently the CAD was worth more than the USD. Today I see the USD is worth slightly more than CAD but basically CAD = USD. Regarding the car, seems steep to me as well, and the painted motor mounts are pretty ghetto.

MUSSBERGER: GREAT Avatar! I was at that race, watched practice from turn 6, and watched the race from the esses grandstand.

Based on what I paid for my 1983 SC ($9.5K) ... that needed only a tune-up and a wax-job, you could buy 2 SC's, a 944Spec car for beating-up at the track, and still have enough money left over to pay for track fees for a couple of races in the 944Spec compared to one 'Green Machine.'

$39,500.00 ...... come on. It looks like nothing more than an SC with a ducktail and green paint.

I copied the following from a different thread as my response to douglas asking about the painted motor mounts:

"Dude! Un-restored perfect condition with one respray a long time ago. That paint still looks wet! I like the incorrect mirrors, which are mounted so crooked you probably can't use them. Nice crack in the dash, the photographer couldn't get any lower. The headliner looks like it was harvested from a dead Pinto, but the seats are cool - NOT! It's got a chin spoiler, never mind that it's not correct for a '74 Carrera. I wonder where the outer sunroof seal is; is it with Waldo? Can you find it? Maybe it's with the bolt that didn't find its way back into the lower hinge for the right door. I like the wide wheels, too bad the car had to be raised two inches for the tires to clear. But, Douglas, best of all, are the color-matched motor mounts!

Good grief!"
