Looks great in pictures, but obviously, you know the drill...(PPI, PPI, PPI)

There was a thread on Pelican (here too maybe) just a couple of months ago about a fellow that bought a 911T that looked great in pictures, and the after-delivery pictures were frightening. He bought sight-unseen from the West coast and had it shipped to NJ. Rust, fit and finish issues, etc. The moral of the story is pictures tell half the story, if that much.

Good luck if you pursue..looks like a sweet car.

Nah, it's a 2.7 liter motor - check the small snout air filter cover (which isn't installed correctly), the early WUR, mag case, etc.

Odd car, somebody spent a lot of money on paintwork, it appears that the doors were refinished completely, possibly off the car. The lower front corner of the right door doesn't seem to fit properly. The interior does not look "well," but that could be photo quality, and I'm not sure if the dash top with speaker perforations is correct. The door panels are very poor, which is unexpected, perhaps corners were cut elsewhere? The inside rear view mirror is installed much too high on the window glass, and what's with those w/wipers? One disturbing item is that I can't see the stamped VIN on the raised section of the trunk floor (just behind the smugglers box). It would be good if we can get a picture that's a close up of that number..

For 38K you could get a pristine 993 with less than 90K miles.

Well I bought my 87 Carrrera for 20K, 38 is ridiculous.

EDIT: Does it come with 20K worth of gold in the trunk?

The prices for real '74 Carreras has gone through the roof. I know of two recent sales that were both over $40K, and both only presented as above average, not excellent. Obviously they're following along on the '73RS's coattails, which are now touching $200K, but it had to happen. I wonder how far behind them the '74S is? These prices no longer reflect the "you could buy an xxx for that money," rather the market today is made up of buyers looking for specific cars, rather than something that might be perceived as better for similar money.

John, how things change - wow is right! For the few years before I sold my shop we had been taking care of a 99-point '73 RS Lightweight, at the time it was valued at about $100K. Now, who knows? $275K, maybe more?

We also maintained a few '74 Carreras, and wondered if they were ever going to get their just due. At the time they were all $12K cars, now good ones are four times that...simply amazing.

Just curious, are you replacing your monster 964 Turbo or adding to the stable?

JV: MFI - no such luck! Our '74S and '74 Carrera rec'd the same engine with the same exhaust ( 2x heat exchangers + 2 in 1 out muffler), and CIS. Great running cars with 175 DIN hp and 187 lb/ft of torque at only 4K revs...
