Post How do you mount the MSD 6AL in a 1977 911s???

I'm trying to mount the MSD 6AL box. I have the motor removed because I'm upgrading to a 3.0 in a week or so.

Is there any tricks or tips on where or how to mount the box. I have been working on a bracket that will mount in the old cd box location, But I was wondering if there is a aftermarket mount or bracket for this problem? Or has anyone found a better location or idea?

Thanks
Rick

Hi Rick:

You are doing the right thing. Due to the size of the MSD, I've always made an aluminum plate that I mount the MSD box to (using their rubber standoffs) and then mount that to the OEM plate where the Bosch CD box lived.

Be VERY thorough about grounding. The MSD's draw far more current than any Porsche OEM ignition and grounding is very critical. Poor grounds is the main culprit responsible for the problems that some folks have with these.

Thanks Steve

I made a plate last night and installed it . It seams to fit snugly, but it does fit.

Thanks again
