Muffler options for 3.2 w/mfi?
What muffler could i use with my 3.2mfi? Does it have to be made for mfi? I'm using ssi heat exchangers and its smog exempt. I would like it to be a little louder than factory, but not ridiculous.

Interesting combination - a 3.2 w/MFI. How, may I ask, did you arrive at that configuration?
With more "normal" MFI motors, its not so much the sound but the apparent need for some backpressure that eliminates a flat spot in the torque curve. I'm not sure you'll have that same situation. I'd start with a factory banana muffler, then modify it with dual outlets (mirrored tailpipes or RS-type twin pipes), then do the internal baffle mods until you're happy with it. You could also go with an aftermarket muffler like a dual-in, dual -out stainless steel Dansk, but then you're into some serious money before knowing whether your muffler is optimal for your engine configuration.
Just my $.02

Sherwood, thanks for the info. My motor uses the 70.4 mm crank with 98mm p/c. 70.4mmx98mm(6)=3.2L. It uses a 911"E" mfi pump modified to RS specs by Pacific Injection with 40mm butterflies and custom throttle stacks. The cams were ground to 964 specs and the heads are from a 78 3.0L (with the39mm intake ports)as are the crank, rods, and crank cases.

I can only offer my experience with a similar engine, but I have EFI and S cams.
I used a standard muffler, as I didn't particularly want too much noise. It certainly didn't seem to hurt power.
If you want more noise, you could try what Sherwood suggested and if you don't like it, put it back how it was...

Hi SB:
FWIW, we've had really good luck with the all stainless-steel Monty Sport mufflers for car's like yours. These really are very well made.
They come in several flavors but I'd recommend either the single 3" outlet one or the dual 3" outlet version depending upon how much sound you want. (Both have dual inlets, of course)
