Mahle: Nikasil
Cylinders = nickel coated aluminum
Pistons = forged
Piston rings = not chrome plated

KS: Alusil
Cylinders = uncoated aluminum, often not compatible with re-ringing
Pistons = cast, iron-coated, slightly heavier
Piston rings = chrome plated

The Nikasil setup gives a more lively, quicker-revving engine with less wear over the long haul. For many years, if my shop placed an order for a piston/cylinder set, and our supplier sent us Alusils, we would return them for credit and shop for Nikasils.
