Air Condition Question

1. Connect garden hose to exhaust pipe...
2. Sit in drivers seat, close door...
3. Pull hose...
Sheeeesh...
I don't need no stink'n cable, I've got DTV ! I'm also getting stir-crazy, can you tell, counting the days until the F1 season starts (I've had nothing to watch since the Cowboys got beat by NY )...I know, it's a sick, sick world...

Last Saturday I was watching the NHRA Winter Nationals at Pomona on ESPN and I swear I could hear the echos from the funny cars, live outside. It was on a two hour delay at most. Outside the sun had just gone down, and on T.V. I could see long shadows.
When NASCAR is in town I can hear them from the house.

...and, do you realize that a Brumos Porsche was leading the Daytona 24 at the 21st hour, and the *&^#@* thing broke? What a shame, all those Pontiac, Lexi, whatever, came storming past ...

I got it all on the DVR. I think that Speed would do much better with auto racing than "Super Bikes"... Who wants to see the same guy do the same wheelie night after night with gang members when even Star Mazda would be better T.V. I even enjoy the Bandalleros and Outlaws at Lowe's.

I must be lucky because my 88 Carrera A/C is 39 degrees at the vents and cools really well. All I did was replace the old hoses with barrier hoses and recharge with R12. Here in Texas and Oklahoma, you've got to have good air or you'll suffer quite a bit, right Dan.

Ron: Hey, I'm not Dan, but I got my vent temp down to 36 F in my '82. Unfortunately, on those typical 100 F + days here in Bakersfield, the part of my body the vent was pointed at began to freeze while the rest of me sweated profusely. The system just couldn't move enough air to fill the driver's compartment...and I didn't like the 245 degree F oil temps either! I just couldn't make it work; we drive the car on warm evenings with the windows down, and my F 150 is my daytime pounder. I see 996s here that drive with the windows closed, but you just don't see SCs or 3.2 liter cars running around in the summer months.

Pete, sorry for any confusion. Edgy01 (Dan in Santa Barbara with the Blue 997 on this thread) and I used to be in War Bonnet Region in Oklahoma some years back and summers there were brutal like here in Texas and Bakersfield. With my 88 Carrera, the A/C vents on the side are larger than the SC and provide good air movement, plus I putting a bulkhead vent in the car and all new hoses makes for a nice driver. Based upon yours and Steve Wiener's excellent advice a couple of years ago, I put in a 99 degree Centigrade BMW radiator sending unit and replaced the factory 244 degree F sending unit. When my car hits 210 F now, the oil cooler fan kicks on and the temp never gets over 215 F. Car stays cool and fun to drive. We talked about alternatives and decided against putting a 91 degree C unit in, because that would cause the fan to run too often. We made the right choice. Thanks for that advice.

Yeah, if there was a way to put those bigger vents in my car, without using a Sawzall...
Then I would have updated the front cooler to your setup...
Then I could have driven the car in summer, but probably not while wearing a suit!
Cheers!

Even with the hair on my legs burning off from the bad flapper boxes last summer I was just thrilled to have the car. Top down, hat on, wife at my side, kids at home and San Diego calling my name....I owned the car 6 or 7 months before I even turned the **** to see if it worked. I still don't know where all the slide things on the heater blower controllers go. .....don't need to.

Those extra outboard vents are pretty nice, my problem is that I'm 6'3", 215 Lbs. My size requires that I have all of the underdash area available for my legs, in addition to entry/exit convenience. That said, I can see how the center vent might have value - thanks for posting this!

You can get the center one here:
