Scott,

Quick question. Are these for strictly street use? Real Fuchs wheels are very strong. Replica Fuchs wheels are not permitted at PCA track (D.E., autocross) events.

I think it's worth your spending some time looking for real Fuchs. They'll cost more, but they should be worth the extra $$. Good luck.

I think "good Fuch replicas" may be an oxymoron. I know that Fuchs in the sizes you want are fairly rare and expensive, but there's a reason for that; they are strong and light. In contrast, Fuch replicas are weaker and heavier, so I can't recommend them, especially if you intend to take the car over to your local track (VIR). I've seen pictures, and one live case, of failed replicas where the center section of the wheel just plumb tore out. BTW, those sizes are a tight fit for an '83, especially the 8" in front, so you should be very careful in fitting them. Good luck.

Thanks guys! I will be using them on the track as I did this past weekend so that rules out replicas. I have found some 8's that I can put on the rear and move my 7's up front this I am hoping I can do with little if not any other mods. This post is great I did not realize the difference in original vs replicas. Sure glad I found out now!

Actually the bad rep comes from some 70's and 80's (Japanese-made?) replicas, that used a duplicate mold of the originals and, accordingly, didn't have sufficient structural strength, since they were cast and not forged.

More recently-made replicas by more-reputable manufacturers are much stronger. And actual Fuchs are getting weaker -- they're starting to show stress cracks at a much higher rate.

Scott, you also might want to consider 2-piece or 3-piece wheels made with Fuchs centers. You could fit 8x9x17 (or 16, or 18) wheels under your flares, and run bigger tires.

Here's my car with 8x10x17 wheels with 245/275 tires under the same flares you have:

Hi Jack,

She's all fixed?

We're still in the shop (body shop at present), doing a C2 turbo body conversion. I am not turbocharging my 3.6 however.

HRE also makes a Fuchs look-alike in a multi-piece wheel. With black centers, they look quite good.
