How much to replace 2nd gear synchro?
I have an '87 C 3.2 with a hard-to-shift-into-second G-50. It rarely grinds but it is always harder than the rest of the gears which are fairly smooth. I have built American manuals in the past but obviuosly the G-50 is not for the faint at heart. I am very proficient with measuring tools (mics, depth mics, dial indicators, telescoping ID mics, etc.) due to me previously being a jet engine mechanic so my questions are (assuming all parts are in good condition):
1. How many hours to replace the synchro?
2. Does it require special tooling?
3. It is very labor intensive or relatively simple?
4. Any special measurements or is it a R&R without affecting any measured clearances?
5. Do you have to use Porsche specific tools or can you modify or make your own?
Just remembered I have the manual on my computer to work on one but I still rather have others opinions who have tackled this.
TIA, Cory

Cory, could this be something that could be fixed with a simple switch to synthetic fluid. my tranny was rebuilt just prior to my purches. It got a new 1-2 syncros but was still very stiff. going to a Kendall 75-90 really made a world of differance for me.

I did, mine is specific, not a rebuild/overhaul......
