G'day,
My manual suggests puting sealant (black caulking compound) where the glass meets the rubber and again where the rubber meets the body work.
It is very messy stuff but a good amount prevents that dreaded rust at the bottom of the window frame.

Good luck.

Frank is that a Porsche Manual ? Everything I have been told is to put it in clean with a new seal without sealant, facilitating taking it out the next time. I was considering doing it myself as my windsheild has started to "fog" in the corners. I don't feel much like messing with sealant !

Red67 has a thread that walked us thru the install of his windshield on his longhood. He used a rope, not sealant.

EDIT: here it is:

Doug he used the rope to aid in installing the seal and ge it over the lip. a seperate issue to using sealant on the windshield, but on a related note, can yo imagine the mess ?

here is another one. can you imagine trying the rope method during a yellow in the midle of a race? a 5 minute windshield change has got to be a record.

Hi Ice,
I have two books one is a Haynes and the other is an Autobooks, out of the UK I believe.
The Haynes says to add sealant first and the Autobooks says to add sealant after the window is in using an pressure gun with a copper nozzle.
I'm sure a plastic nozzle will do on a hand caulking gun.

Everything I have been told is to put it in clean with a new seal without sealant, facilitating taking it out the next time.
Black caulking compound is not an adhesive and won't make it any harder to get the screen out at a later date.

Seeing that my car is not a race car or a daily driver it'll probably have it's screen in for quite a while. I'll be sealing it to stop that dreaded cancer that so often affects these cars in the lower windscreen area.

I think when I pop mine out I will inspect for cancer, then take it from there. I just don't like that black goop stuff.

Ice I agree,
That black stuff is as messy as a Freemantle brothel after the USS Ronald Regan has been in port for a week!

but I'm still prepared to put up with the trouble of cleaning it if it stops the rust.

Thank's for the infos guys, i knew about the rope thing, did it on my 928 for the windshield, but the guy who did the job put something we call dom dom here, it's soft and come in strings. It did well for the windshield but for the quarter glasses it was a pain in the neck to completely put it back at it's place. I won't do the mistake of using that again !
My 911 had that cancer at corner of windshield and rear glass, i will do what it takes for it not to come back even if the car won't see the sun for long periods and won't probably come out when it rains.
Thank's again

Glass shop that replaced my windshield used the black sealant goo.

I was very happy that rust was not an issue since the windshield replaced was the original.
