Urgent 3.2 Cab questions
Hi Sorry
For the title, but I am on the verge of buying a 3.2 Cab 1983(10/83) Which appears to be in excellent condition.
I have a few questions:
1. The Clutch did not seam to have a firm bitting point, if you know what I mean. Also when the car was stationary, I could hear the cable creaking when I pushed the clutch. The owner has had the cluth changed within the last 1.5 years.
2. Can I fit a standard set of 17" Cup1 or Cup2 alloys on the car. It currently has 15" Fuch wheels. What are the max tyre sizes that I can fit?
3. The car does not have central locking, can I get a central locking kit ??
4. Can I change the gear shifter to something slightly more similar to the 964 shifter, more upright and with less travel.
Sorry if these questions do not seem important or have been covered before.
Kindest Regards
Sunil

Regarding #4 there is something called the factory "Short shift kit"
"This kit replaces the shifter components with ones that reduce the throw by about 35% and bolt on without cutting, welding or drilling"
It is a factory kit so you could get it from dealers and parts suppliers for les than $150.

Sunil:
As far as the 17 inch wheels go, you can get them but you will have to get aftermarket wheels. Tirerack sells them and they are reasonable priced. The OEM Cup 1 and Cup 2 wheels do not have the same offsets as the earlier car and will not fit unless you ad a rather large spacer which will require longer studs.
My advice would be to get your hands on some 16x7 (for the front) and 16x8 (for the rear) Fuchs wheels to keep the original look.

Thanks for the replys chaps
With regards to the short shift kit, I was looking for something to also change the actual gear stick, so that it would be slightly shorter and straighter.
So I want to be looking for after market wheels rather than real ones. Thats a little annoying.
Kindest Regards

Sunil,
Creaky cable= replace cable. This usually means it's on it's last legs.
Max tire / wheel combo is 17x8 w/235 up front and 17x9 w/255 in the rear. This will be a nice balance on the car.
Don't know about the central locking thingy but I can't imagine it would be that hard to install...
In regard to the shifter, I would drive it for a while and see how you like it. There is a factory short shifter for that car if I'm not mistaken and I would advise against any of the aftermarket ones. The 915 transmission takes some getting used to. Also, the shifter can be adjusted forward but just make sure you can still engage 1st, 3rd and 5th afterwards.
Now a question for you, why a Cab, you live in England??? You'll never have it open
I used to live over there so I figured I could take the ****.
Cheers, James

Hi:
Seems odd that no one picked up on the mis-match of model year and engine type. The first 3.2's were 1984 models ( "E" in the middle of the VIN number)..1983 would be the last of the 3.0 SC's, and would have "D" in the middle of the VIN number. However, if this is for a ROW ( rest-of-world) car..and not USA, then this whole thing is in a cocked hat..but I thought to bring this up anyway.
