Default one year cost of ownership report

I remember reading a couple posts on the cost of ownership at the one year mark so here is mine:

original purchase price: $20,000
Performance Products:$2,000
Porsche dealer: $300+/-
Pep boys: $200
Save-A-Bug: $20
Interest on loan: $415
Steve W.: $180
Precision Motion: $50
Pelican: $70
Insurance: $350
________________________
total out of pocket: $23,585

miles driven just under 15,000
that's $1.57 per mile

add in gas at:
12 gal./ fill of 91 @ $3.30/ gal
6 gal./ fill of 100 @ $6.99/ gal
that's $0.22/ mile X 15,000 = $3,300 in gas

so that is $26,885 out of pocket for me to have the car of my dreams.....
or: $1.79 per mile driven in the car of my dreams....

YES, I DO HAVE THE PINK SLIP IN HAND.....

THAT'S $64.62 PER DAY. WHAT WAS I THINKING?

Douglas: Follow up on your charity of choice (Save-A-Bug), I have not rec'd a penny from that organization to help defray some of the restoration costs of my '66 V-dub bug...

Yes, but just think how much your costs will go down next year when you subtract $20,000.00.

At least you don't have to worry about depreciation.

unless I get the purple 912 longhood just up the road to turn into a safari/rally car (baja bug-ish) for my 14 year old. Then it would start all over.

EDIT AFTER READING POST FROM dw1: My car was a gift from my wife or payment from my wife, depending on how you look at it. After getting her pregnant 9 times one of us had to get fixed. I got fixed, so I got the car. She has yet to sit in the driver's seat.

I have a very similar tale of costs for my '87, which I won't total because the wife might see it. Of course I would have to add the costs of remodeling the kitchen that was her part of the deal (you get the car, I get new appliances, etc.).

But what the heck, it saved me the money I otherwise would have spent on green fees, ski lift tickets, etc., etc....

I'll total up the 5-year cost in order to amoritize the cost of the car, the performance upgrades, the operating and insurance costs, and the inevitable speeding tickets.

I won't itemize my 1 year of Boxster Ownership, but one failed Variocam Actuator helped put my 1 year "expense" at $5K... but I only paid $16,5 for the car You might see in my Sig that the Boxster has been sold

My first 6 months:
  • Purchase Price: $16,900
  • Trip to Atlanta to pick up (hotels, gas, etc): $300
  • Roll bar: $650
  • Parts: $750
  • Parts on the way: $200
  • Insurance: $250
  • Gas: $300
Total: $19350

Subtract:
  • the week my buddy brought his 89 964 C4 here and we zoomed around in the twisties with white knuckles on our hands, and jaw breaking smiles on our faces: $4000
  • my first PCA club drive in October during which I was the only who put my top down and got to call all the Boxster owners "weenies": $800
  • each time someone has remarked what a cool car that is: $5000
  • getting to wear a sweatshirt that says "Porsche" on the chest: $100
  • looking out my window towards my driveway and smiling: $1650
  • getting to say "My 911": $2000
  • watching the BMW roadsters and Miatas in my rear view mirror as I lead a local Roadster drive: $1800
  • spending the winter months doing my first valve adjustment, installing a new CV boot, brakes, CHT sensor, door stops, shift linkage while listening to Christmas songs and country music: $3000
  • no longer drooling at the pictures in Car and Driver, cause there aren't any cars cooler than this: $1000

Credits: $19,350

Hey, I think I broke even so far!

Douglas its better not to look.... after "discussing" the ammount of cash lavished on her in the garage by mrs diamondcarrera - I went off to prove that the figure was no where near her guess-timate when I was half way down the inv. pile and way past the guess-timate i gave up and pretended that I was busy doing something else......

Don't forget to credit back the savings of psychotherapy sessions avoided by driving the 911 :-)

I forgot tax and tags and the $50 bucks I spent on tranny fluid. I'm thinking it was a break even deal. Had I not gotten the car, my wife would have just put braces on the kids sooner, or gone on a longer vacation.
diamond, I figured out along time ago a trick that my wife pulls off and it has to do with invoices and products. If it sits in the closet or in the back of the van for more than two weeks it "OK 'cause we've had it for weeks, It's not like I just got it"
