Question
I am sure this has been brought up before. I read by some that on the sticker under the hood and in the owners manual the options will be printed.
Subject car, 1986 911 coupe. I have no printing on either sticker as to the options but the Vin# matches. I really don't want to spend $95 for a piece of paper from Porsche North America to tell me what the car came with, $95?. Is there another way to find out what was on the car? One of the prior owners claimed the car came with a tail but he is now old and I question his memory as he owned many Porsches in his lifetime. Regards, Mike.

Check if it has a chin spoiler. As far as I understand, every car that came with a factory tail came with a chin. Now this is by no means a way to check if it was a factory option but it is important that if you have a tail you have a chin. Am I making any sense here?
My question is.....does it matter if it's factory or not?

No chin spoiler or any evidence there was one, guess that is the end of that. As for the matter of factory or not I have bought and sold many collector cars in the past. I have found the best way to get as much money back on the car when it comes time to sell is to keep it stock. This applies to cars and anything else people with poor taste can mess up. How many times do I go to Ebay and find a car for sale that has extra scoops and wings that only batman could own. Sooooooooo this is my story and I am sticking to it.

I am absolutely thoroughly convinced and 100% positive beyond the most remote shadow of a doubt that Porsche never (ever!) sold that era 911 without a chin spoiler if it had a tail!
Of course, I could be wrong .

Call 1-800-porsche option #3 I believe and give them your VIN. They should be able to give you the option codes.
They are open Mon-Fri...east coast business hours. It is free.....Say Thank You!!

My car had a dealer installed whale tail when I got it 3 years ago. No chin spoiler had ever been mounted.

Did you mount a chin spoiler? My understanding is that tail w/o chin spoiler isn't a safe way to go, but chin spoiler w/o tail isn't unsafe.

Mine came w/tea tray & air dam and, considering that the car naturaly becomes increasingly floaty from 80 mph up, even with them, I for one wouldn't want to be without them.
