Post SC maintenance schedule

What are the major scheduled intervals for these cars? Also, what should be done to them at these intervals.

Thanks in advance

Brian

According to the owner's manual, the maintenance interval for my 1980 SC is 15,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. It seems almost negligent, but, admittedly it's an extensive/expensive maintenance (oil change, all filters, trans oil change, valve adjustment, spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor, fuel injection adjustment, brake fluid change, etc). A dealer would also probably check things like brake pads, tires, cv joint boots, wiper blades, etc. and replace them if they don't look like they'll last another 15,000 mi.

I think most would agree that it's actually pretty reasonable (the every 12 months part) - with the exception of the oil change. Even though the SC does hold 11 (or so) quarts of oil, you'd be hard pressed to find many owners who let it go for 15, 000 miles - or 12 months. Since most SCs sit a lot these days and don't rack up a lot of miles each year, the time interval is probably more critical than the mileage. The Mobil 1 in mine gets changed twice a year (because of my concern about condensation from it sitting in the garage too much) - probably no more than 2000 miles between changes.

The factory maintenance schedule was obviously intended for an everyday driver that racks up 10-15 thousand miles a year. Few SCs live that kind of life these days.
