Default Engine in or out for clutch slave cylinder

Happy Holidays everyone,

Does any know if you need to drop the engine or not in order to replace the clutch slave cylinder? It looks like it but just wanted to make sure before I spend all that time dropping it.

I have a 1987- 911 carrerra.

thanks in advance.

No you don't need to drop the engine, but you will have carpal tunnel syndrome by the time you are done.

Maybe it was my big hands but I was at the limits of my reach and basically working using my fingertips.

A partial engine drop will help a great deal.

remove brake fluid resevoir cap from car.
remove brake fluid with syringe or pinch off line with visegrip(I dont like that idea)
raise car and support in safe manner
working on top of tranny on drivers side:
loosen clutch slave cylinder fluid line fitting (A)
remove slave cylindermounting nuts(B)
pull slave cylinder out of tranny and disconnect fluid line

so the answer is no....

Can't be done without stretching your vocabulary and best done out of ear shot of children. Suggest you use your Abe Lincoln look-alike friend to help. Use good tools, not Harbor Freight cheapo stuff. Flare wrenches on hyd line. Bleeding is even more fun. The Porsche Maintainability Design Engineer who designed this won an award. Guess which one ..
