These first two pictures are the clutch discs (old vs new). The car has over 300K miles on it. I estimate the mileage on this old clutch disc to be at least half that. Obviously it is not the original clutch. The rest will be random shots of the new parts that are going onto the car. I forgot to shoot pics of the suspension bushings. I might as well add them tomorrow. I pressed them in with a hydraulic press in the corner of the garage after cutting the old bushing shells out with a hacksaw. Other stuff I'm doing is I have shampooed the carpets in the bathtub, the seats are coming out for a thorough clean/condition, the seat rails are being repainted, shifter changed out, clutch cable and parking brake cable.

interesting .. the "problem" i see is this .. that clutch looks fine .. no broken spring the surface looks a little glazed but nothing serious .. nothing there to indicate the issues you were having ...

No, the problem was actually the TO bearing was seized up, and I decided to replace it and the guide tube and TO fork. Then, it just snowballed from there. It's the same with the flywheel. I got sucked into questions such as: do you replace a flywheel with 300k miles, or leave it in? Sensors? I know what experienced wrenches would do. They'd only fix what's actually broken, but to me it might be better to replace everything now and maximize the amount of time between engine drops. I use the 911 for long distance hauls around central California, so reliability is a prime concern as well.
And here's another 911 owner's dilemma. These cars are around 30 years old and we don't like to compromise much on condition. So I'm doing rear suspension, controls, sound mat, etc etc.....all of which are working fine, but could be better (meaning new). None of this was actually scheduled because the TO failure triggered all this stuff, which I would have preferred to put off.

I know how that goes:
My first major project on Ruby was a $2200 "clutch replacement".
Then, after I twisted my exhaust valves and rebuilt the engine, I ended up with the cam tower to head leak at #3. To "fix" that cost me a set of 98mm pistons and cylinders, a DME splitter, a 964 dizzy, another gasket set, new wires (12!), and whatever else I ended up buying. We're all sick...

Haha, yup. BTW, I have to give props to Paragon Products in TX. Even though it was late yesterday when I placed my order for the speed and ref sensors, they got them boxed and out the door. This AM I get an email from the owner, Barbara Westbrook thanking me for my biz. That's very nice of her.

I'm just glad I can tell my wife that I am not the only otherwise functional adult thus afflicted!
Great photos and info Rusnak!

Haha...thanks. More pics to help Team Gruppe Hug feel better about themselves:
The first two are the new vs. old banana arm bushings. You can see why I thought they might have to come out.

Those bushings were fine .. they could have gone a couple more weeks no problem .....
Speaking of such i have a $1.25 O-Ring leaking between the chain box and cam tower . i am putting it off as I figure it will cost about 3 grand to replace .

How's this for service?
Two new sensors arrived this evening from Paragon Products in Texas. We were only talking about them yesterday afternoon, and I only paid for UPS Ground. I was not expecting them until Friday, or 3 days from today. I have to get some jackstands from them.
