As usual we have enough bad examples for it to be flagged on the user groups and forums, but I am sure if they were all bad they would be out of business. Remember a lot of stuff comes from internet Hyperbola. If you have a good engine enjoy it , as others may not have been so lucky..

All the best

Could be so I agree with IceMan. However, wait until there is atleast 75000 miles on the rebuild. I dont think motormeister is bad moreso than just not the type of quality rebuilding you want done on a car like this. Most people believe that "if it aint done right, it aint worth ****" when it comes to 911 engines. Maybe they dont use quality parts or dont change as much things as they should. Who knows. Also your engine is more basic than say, a carrera 3.2 or the 964 engines, so maybe they did a better job? Good luck, enjoy the engine!

"Even a broken clock is right twice a day"

However, that being said, I doubt they purposely build bad engines. Probably a case of bad, QA/QC, bad customer service, an internet stories propagated.

You have no idea,.......

I've seen the innards of 3 of their "rebuilt" engines that came here for repair and consequently, complete overhaul/replacement.

If one has a "good" one, simply count your blessings and drive it.

The real question is would you buy a car with one of their motors. I would, but I would not pay any kind of a premium for it. I would treat it as a high mileage car in need of near future rebuild.

"Also your engine is more basic than say, a carrera 3.2 or the 964 engines" is simply not an accurate statement. To do a 2.7 correctly the builder has to know more about the machine shop end, and the types of repairs (align bore, intermediate shaft problems, case savers and head studs, oil pumps, tensioner upgrades, idler arms, valve guides, etc.) that are needed to produce a long life engine. So, in a way, the 2.7 motor is actually a more difficult machine to overhaul than either of its big brothers that are mentioned.

I have worked on a few motormeister engines, even had to do a rebuild on one after 3000 miles. They have all had serious problems and there were questionable parts used and some that were "new" that had catastrophic failure. When our shop confronted them, they took no responsibility for their shoddy work. All this comes at a very high price. Not just the outrageous price MM charges for engine builds, but also the cost to repair whatever they did a half-assed job on.

None of what they do is proprietary. Anything that you want done can be done by good local Porsche mechanic that you are already on good terms with and at a lower cost. I have heard that they put out a good engine from time to time, but if you run across a Porsche that has their engine in it and you want to buy the car, get it completely checked out by someone who knows what they are doing.

- I'll add that the reason for this is that the case is made of Mg -- as Bruce Anderson once put it, "Mg is like congealed butter." It moves under stress, hence the need for more measuring and more machine work.

If they are that bad, why would PCA let them have ad space on Panorama?
I thought PCA tried to protect other Porsche owners of places like this.
