You mean it won't crank OR it won't run...
If it won't crank, can you here any "click" noise from the starter? If not, then check the battery, starter and power supply to it.
If it cranks, but does not run, check for spark and fuel pressure.
You need to do more diagnosis from there.

Did it make any unusual sounds before it died? If not, and the engine simply stopped without a whimper, the problem sounds electrical. If so, we need to know what it sounded like as the problem took affect.

Quickest way to find out if the problem is fuel related is to pour a tablespoon into the right spot and see if it tries to start when you get back into the driver's seat and turn the key. This is not the safest approach though, so stand clear and have a fire extingusher in hand just in case you pour too much or it goes into the wrong place. It sounds like you need a mechanic's help.

Check the fuel pump operation, can you here it run with the key turn on. Take the jumper and put it on the relay to see if it runs at all. There are many topics on here about it. I think it's 30 and 87b or that could be my 944 anyway there is a way to check it simply.

okay ..... how about making sure you have spark first .. sounds safer , pull a spark plug lead off and put a spare plug in it and ground it . turn it over and see if you have spark.

Bob: ice's suggestion makes sense, but judging by your symptom I would look at the fuel pump also, the way that your car died is a pretty common symptom of pump failure. If you have a mallet, and know where the pump is located, you can reach under the car and hit the skid plate under the pump a couple of times. Sometimes this jarring can wake up a dead pump, at least enough to get you home.

and boy are those pumps going up in price. I payed less that 100.00 dollars for a Bosch fuel pump in case mine died about a year ago. now its about 240 ( on my site i use for parts )

Check Zim's. http://www.allzim.com/acatalog/Fuel_Pump.html
They have remanufactured fuel pumps. They also sell aftermarket fuel pumps. Either may be a cost-effective alternative to a new pump (if that's what you need).
Good luck!

I have a friend that recently went the "rebuilt" route. What a disaster! Four pumps later the car is once again reliable - with a new, dealer ordered, Germany only, $600 pump! Add the cost of the rebuilt unit + warranty replacements + down time + misc tows and you have more invested than just buying the new pump at the outset.
