...with (what looks to be) a full 993 conversion with Strosek kit.. Looks good, and for $20,000 would you consider it?

Found this on Atlanta craigslist. No affiliation.

Personally I have never liked Strosek cars. No offense but the updating should have been under that skin.

no way, '76 would not have started life as a cab... scary. I'm also not a fan of Strosek cars. This car would be a great way to lose money.

I would not even touch it.

Same ad is listed on CL in the NC area.

I'm also not a fan of the car. It's certainly not an investment Porsche. But, if you like it, and could pick it up for around $15K-$17K, you probably won't lose too much money (less loss than buying a $20K 2006 Camry or Tacoma). That yellow Strosek would be a lot more fun to own.

With that said, you might want to put a bungie cord from door top to door top to keep it from flexing where the roof was cut off.

I don't understand why someone would put all that money into a '76 chassis and keep the 2.7. It doesn't even sound like the mechanicals have been rebuilt. If the car had a transplanted 3.2, or even better 3.6, then I'd consider it, though yellow is probably my least favorite color. If the 2.7 hasn't been updated there is no way I would consider it, and if it has, and passes a PPI, it's still a 15k car.

I scanned the ad, and read it at first as, "draws flies everywhere". I think it was just the nausea. Most of these Stroseks look like abortions to me. I'll never understand why someone pours money into something like this, to end up with a result that looks like a kit car. It would have been worth a lot more restored as a '76.

Not my taste... but if you like it, and you can talk the price down, may be worth a look.

I actually like the car; however, I concur with JBO. I can't imagine spending that kind of money on the chassis and not upgrading the powerplant...

If you're like me and your purpose for owning a PCAR is for the pure pleasure of enjoying the car then I say go for it...

However, I would be extremely cautious dealing with items, especially highend items on Craigs list. I recently listed my 1963 Chevy Impala on Craigs list in my area. Several weeks after running the ad, I recieved an email from someone stating that someone else was running my ad up in Canada. Unfortunately, the guy was taken for $500 dollars as a result of the scam...

Be very cautious...

TK

Well, I'm not even considering the purchase of this car. I have been scouring around for a bit looking for a 911 project chassis/shell. I came across this as a shocker to me. I couldn't own it... I'm too much of a "purist" to let myself own it. I've also never been a fan of the Strosek kits- I do agree, they do look a bit too kit-car-ish.

I was wondering what the responses to everyone else would be. I haven't seen many of these done like this, mainly because most people who would own a beautiful '76 would keep it... you know, a beautiful '76!

Oh well... at this point of my response I will leave a large blank... errr... silence for that poor '76 who will never again be as it was first intended...

If it didn't start out life as a cab, (which it couldn't), I would run, run, run, run, run, awayyyyyyyyyyy!
