Post 1986 911 Brake Upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade my brakes on my 1986 Carrera. Has anyone ever put a set of 944 Turbo brakes on a 911? If so, is it difficult. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

There's lots of stuff out there as it's ben discussed many times before. Do a search for brake upgrades and you'll find tons of stuff.

Since the search function seems to have disappeared, I'll suggest that you may want to read this page
<a href="http://home.nycap.rr.com/wmv/generalbrmd.htm" target="_blank">911 brake Mods</a>

Bottom line is bigger rotors are needed along w/ the calipers

There are several ways to do this. Here is one way
<a href="http://home.nycap.rr.com/wmv/964to911.htm" target="_blank">964/944t brakes on a 911</a>

here is another
<a href="http://www.vehiclecraft.com/Brakes/VCI911_2_964.htm" target="_blank">VCI 964 brakes for a 911</a>

Please do not fall into the trap of trying to elongate the 94mm 964/944T caliper mounts to fit on 3.5" ears. I know it's tantalizing but it's a really really bad idea!!

Hi,

The search function is offline to rebuild the indices. It'll be back....

Chris, if you do upgrade your brakes, I may be in the market for a set of Carrera front / rear calipers and proportioning valve.

Thanks for all the help guys. Jim, if I do the upgrade, I'll let you know to see if you still need the old ones.

Hi Chris:

I'd just chime in here and offer one more opinion,.....

You cannot go wrong with 930 brakes on a car like yours. These have more than enough heat dissipation capacity, good brake biasing, and will fit inside any 15" or 16" wheel you use.

IMHO, anything less is insufficent if you plan on participating in track events.

I agree with Steve that you can't go wrong w/ 930 brakes all around. Though for minor technical reasons I like 993/S4 fronts & 965 rears on 930 rotors better.
