I got into your basic freeway drag race with an ///M5 about an hour ago. started with him pulling in next to me at about 80 mph on a wide open freeway. I dropped it into 4th and it was side by side to about 130 mph. At that point he left me in his dust. I could see his tail lights in the distance in no time. I wasn't gonna go too fast and I'm sure even at 130 he was just toying with me.
So the question is...What is an ///M5?

I've been driving an M5 for 7 years. It's 400HP, 400 ft/lbs, 4 doors. Fastest production sedan in the world in 2000. The electronic governor kicks in at 155 mph, but they can go faster.

A BMW M5 is something you don't want to mess with! ///M is the division of BMW that takes the "standard" series cars and gives them a little extra. I remember when my boyfriend gave me a ride in his M3. It didn't look that impressive to me as an uninitiated pre-bimmer owner. But, oh wow! They can move and they can handle. The 5-series bimmers are even more powerful. Then you send them over to the ///M division and they get rocket engines installed.
I led a drive a few weeks ago in my 911. Had a BMW M Roadster (the M version of the Z4) in the group. Couldn't shake him. Killer cars.
I'm new to Porsches, but I'd say maybe the equivalent is sending a 911 to Ruf?

Yes, please come visit and bring the blue 911 back "home."
But don't race any M5s on the way. Of course, they put in 10 cylinders and a seriously gas-guzzling engine to make a 911 eat dust. And 20 yrs of added technology.

I wouldn't go that far :P I would say an M5 has the power of a 997 turbo but doesn't come close in other ways of performance. Some would disagree. M5s are the top of the line when it comes to BMW, well maybe now they have the M6. However, if you put Porsche top of the line next to it, it will just giggle at the M5. This is NOT including the Carrera GT of course. That would just be unfair since its a supercar. The thing that impresses me about Porsche is their engineering, they get so much out of just 6 cylinders.

I think the only reason that the driver walked away from that crash was because his steering wheel was on the wrong side of the car! Wouldn't have wanted to be the passenger.
