Question 81' sc driver side mirror loose

I am now the lucky owner of my first 911. Always dreamed of having one since I was a child. The feeling didn't even hit me until I was half way home. WOW !!! Well, you know what I mean. Anyway enough about me. Here's my question. How do I fix the electric mirror on the driver side? It keeps wobbling around. Like something is broke inside? Can it be fixed? Or, do I need a new mirror?

Thank you for your time, Troy

P.S. I am also the proud owner of a 89' 2.7 liter 944. Is life great or what.

Troy,

Congratulations on your 81SC - that's the same year I owned, and a fine year for SC's it was! You may want to consider getting the Bentley publication "Porsche 911SC Service Manual". List is $119, but you can get it thru the internet for around $75, last time I looked. Well written and illustrated (I provided comments to Bentley for the current edition). The factory manuals are good too, but the set runs around $350. Also, if you haven't read it already, the 911SC FAQ on tech.rennlist.com might be of interest.

On your mirror, is the base loose or something inside? If the base, there's an adjuster on the inside by the window. I just looked at the Bentley book, and it has 2 pages that show with pictures how to take the entire electric mirror assembly apart.

The June 2003 issue of Excellence has a pictorial review in replacing a mirror on a 89 944. i can't believe the process for a 81 911 is much different.

Thank you for the imput. Pulled the mirror partialy off. It was still connected with the wires. I think I need to see another to get a better idea. I cannot tell what holds it down. Hmmmmmm?
