Yeh so this is my official first post as ive been browsing and reading everything i can from here and pelican for the last year or so....
I am now in the market for a car. There is a huge difference with everything between the 2 cars listed above. Do ya want the raw power and less sophistication of the 930 or the gadgets and the more refined 993.. Well thats where you guys come in (gal's too if your here
)
I live here in Las Vegas. So summer gets hot. This will be my daily driven car with saying im gonna put between 15-20k miles a year on her. I love all Porsche's and had an 83SC for 3 years.. Now I can come back to life once again!
So maybe you guys can give a little info that I can ponder over for a bit..
Things to just point out.
Autox maybe 5-7 times a year.
I have a master porsche tech who lives around the corner for easy and alot cheaper service/maint.
Budget of say 35-45k and a nack for upgrading whether it be a turbo or maybe coilovers for the track
Thats all i can think about right now. I am so on the fence between the 2 cars I don't know what to do.
Oh yeh and thanks to anyone who has something to say. I'm sure I'll be around for some time to come <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Daily driver in Nevada? No brainer. 993. Newer, more efficient A/C, great suspension, the final iteration of the oil-cooled Porsche.
Good luck.

I debated the same decision last year. In the end, I ended up buying a 930. BUT, I was not looking for a daily driver. As much as I love my 930, I think for everyday driving it would get a little tiresome. The A/C is a known weakness. Also, part of what makes the car so much fun for me--the on/off turbo--is not the best for traffic. The car definitely has a vintage feel to it now. The 993 is an excellent performer that is also comfortable. It also looks nice and is the ultimate air-cooled 911.
I never regret my decision though. Every time I put the garage door up and look at the 930, I am reminded of Porsche's racing success. And to me, the 930 will always be the quintessential modern Porsche.
In the end, the decision comes down to passion or practicality.

For a daily driver, it's hard to argue against the 993, especially considering the hot Vegas weather and the high mileage you're going to put on the car. I'd vote for the 930 if it was going to be your second car.

LV, I have both a 930 and a 964 (pretty close to the 993) and have to say that the 930 is the 2nd car. Go with the 993 for everyday usage., that's why I bought the C4. BTW the air conditioner is colder in the 930 than the 964, both ac's are in top condition. I dunno, it's not supposed to be that way but the 930 actually get's TO cold, have to run it on the lowest settings. Good luck...

LV; I just got back from vegas great town with a lot of women... I would go with what your pocket can afford. I would much rather have a turbo 911 over a non turbo car. If your pocket says turbo then the 993tt is the car, if it says no then the 930 turbo either way ya can't go wrong. I did see a couple of nice porsches in vegas and a lot of plastic enhanced breast also.

Its hard to say no to the Turbo rush...But you have given enough info to say that the newer more refined model would be the best choice in your situation...Good luck with your choice...

For daily driving, hands down 993. More refined, better creature comforts, and easier to maintain. It will lack the raw feel and power of the 930, but will be a much better car to live every day with. The 930 also tends to have a 'rubber band'-like power band. That being, not alot down low but then it comes on quickly and it tends to be difficult to drive in the middle, i.e. crusing at 2-4k. It wants to take off, but you don't have room to let it.

I think you have to consider the 1991 C2 Turbo. It has a proven 3.3L Turbo motor and most of the advantages of the 993. At least you should drive each. I would bet the c2 turbo will hold its value over the years better than a 993. I had the same choice a few years ago and went with the 993 and only kept it for a year or so. It just wasn't as "fun" to drive (no flames please) as the turbo.
Just my $.02

Well i was considering any of the cars above.. Wanted to keep the price of the vehicle between 35-45k.. Thought the c2 turbos would be more around 50k? But personally I love the c2 turbo's anyway and just thought they were out of range..
I'm pretty hooked on the 993 idea but knowing now that i drive an S4 Avant with around 350hp and 450 ft lbs of tq it might be depressing to go down in power and acceleration... But the 993 lines, noise, feel and everything else why i love them can't be dismissed. Put the bilstein coilovers on there and lower it with some black centered fikse rims and you got yourself a car.. Wow im dreaming again..
So i guess another questions is c2 turbo vs 993??
Whats the maint. like on the c2? Similiar to the older 930. Anything to look out for other then get a the normal ppi?
Would the 15-20k miles a year kill the resale of the turbo? Whats the figures on the c2 motor vs the older 3.3 motor? hp/tq kinda stuff what did they change to get the more power?
