You are correct with the vin number being 1976 RoW. I don't think the 911SC came out until 1978? Someone please verify this. I would check your engine and trans serial numbers as well to help figure out what exactly you have.

The dataplate for an F-series 1973 911RS said "SC" on it as well. If it is a ROW 3.0 Carrera, I wouldn't be surprised to see SC there also. Here are the plates from RS #441 and #406. It doesn't have to be a 1978-83 911SC to have that designation.

The legal designation of the Carrera 3.0 was 911 SC 3.0, they just didn't sell it under that name.
The first "SC" was the 73 Carrera RS. Even the Carrera 3.2 with the 915 gearbox are officially "911 SC"s.
They only adopted the legal name as trade name in 78 when they brought down the power and probably no longer could call it Carrera with a clear conscience...
