Post HELP! OIL LIGHT... strange...oil+brake light

So, i think i have a short. 1985 911 Targa. Oil is great, just changed it, not leaking more than usual, no dirt in oil, full quantity there, oil level even looks good on the gauge at idle. So occasionally, under 2000 rpms, the oil light comes on, with the red brake light on the dash!
I know something is wrong ground wise somewhere, cause my stereo didnt install well, the live feed for power had to be bypassed straight to the battery, as the wire for the stereo was intermittent... sounds like a grounding problem? ever seem before? My oild pressure (drudge) gauge also toasted, its either on or off....

Heeeeeeeeeelp. Already spent a fortune getting back on the road, any expereienced opinions? just gotta get my multi meter out? Use the tracing procedure foung in 101 projects book? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARghhhh.... this is fast becoming a love hate relationship...good think it toasts Monte Carlo SS easily... wbhahahahahha <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Probably oil light switch. On my 82 911, it is on same circuit as emergency brake light.
If you have long arms you can replace without dropping engine. Part costs about $12.00

My brake light (on an SC) used to come in ocassionaly, after many hours looking, I replacedthe ground strap and it was fixed. Try that.

There is an article on the tech.rennlist.com site under 911 engines that tells how to do a partial engine drop.

Unfortunately having both of these lights (oil and brake) come on may also be caused by an alternator system problem. Could be loose v-belt, loose wiring, bad alternator bearings which will take out fan and brushes, worn brushes, bad voltage regulator or other alternator fault. Check these items too. Cheers, Jim

stupid oil light!

So i took my booster cables and connected the ground post to a solid point on the chassis. ANd the oil light still came on under 200o rpm. Thus, i am thinking that the alternator is the culprit, as it seems to be rpm related. hmmmmm how do i tighten the belt? i have the 101 project book and havent looked it up yet, is this easy to try?
