The Sultan is famous for his vast automobile collection. In 1998, the British car magazine Autocar published undercover photographs of the Sultan's cars, which included unique modifications of Ferraris and Bentleys. It has been said that he has atleast 3,000 to 5,000 cars and has bought over $4 Billion worth of cars. The number purchased by his business interests and the number actually used by himself and his family differ greatly. According to Guinness World Records the Sultan's personal private collection has 500 Rolls-Royces — the largest collection of that marque in the world. During the 1990s, his family accounted for almost half of all Rolls-Royce purchases, bulk buying slightly modified vehicles for diplomats and adding unique cars to their own collection. He also owns the very last Rolls-Royce Phantom VI, a 1992 state landaulette.

Among his collection are the Porsche Carrera GT, Lamborghini Diablo Jota, Porsche 959, Bugatti EB110, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, Maybach 62, Jaguar XJR-15 and six Dauer 962's. He is also the owner of six models of the Ferrari FX, the original red show model of the Bentley Continental R, two fully operational versions of the Ferrari Mythos concept car, both of the Ferrari 456 GT Sedans, the only Right hand drive Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR in the world, five McLaren F1's including both black LM models and three Cizeta cars. He also possesses a Formula One car as driven by every Formula 1 World Drivers Champion since the 1980 Formula One season, particularly the ones driven in the last race for each season. A prime example of this is Jacques Villeneuve's Williams FW19 which still bears the collision damage courtesy of Michael Schumacher in the 1997 European Grand Prix.

He has a special interest in buying one-of-a-kind concept cars, including the Bentley Java and Bentley Dominator 4x4, whilst leaving slightly more common race cars such as the Aston Martin AM3 or the souped-up 300SL to his brother Jefri. The collection of vehicles was for the most part stored and serviced in five aircraft hangars, where specialist teams from the various manufacturers would maintain the collection.

However, The Daily Mirror (UK) reported on October 26th 2007. That the Sultan owned 531 Mercedes 367 Ferraris 362 Bentleys 185 BMWs 177 Jaguars 160 Porsches 130 Rolls-Royces 20 Lamborghinis

He also has many houses all over the world. I used to live down the street from one of his houses in Singapore. The house took up 1 city block, and his garage took up another. Not to mention the house and garage was covered in marble. The best part about being his neighbor was seeing what kind of cars came out of the gate.

Thats insane, I wonder if he has a 1960 ferrari 250GT California. The guy needs help, I too HAVE THE Porsche "bug" BUT HIS LEVEL of adverace seems to exceed King Solomons riches. What a shame that he must drive on such ugly streets and roads and avoid possible RPG fire from the local fundamentalists that declare Jihad against western styles and Porsche.

This is precisely why we are having problems in the east. As long as there are people who have nothing, there are people who have nothing to loose by blowing themselves up at bus stations. Brunei isnt the middle east. If I was to compare Brunei to anywhere in the middle east it would have to be Dubai. all the poor people in Dubai arent actually from the counrty, they are brought in to build, and live in slave like conditions.

There is a reason why you don't hear all that much about Brunei, they are all rich, and happy. They have a different way of thinking over there than we do here. they want the leader to show off his riches because they think everyone else in the world will look up to him. They use money as power, not a military. Thus nobody really tries to start wars with them, just go into business with them.

Another interesting tid bit about oil rich countries (mostly middle east), ever looked to see who owns a huge portion of American companies? especially a lot of the banking/financial inudstry?

anyways, we are getting way off topic. Not only does the Sultan own a huge fleet of very expensive cars, he also hires a large fleet of people to tend to them. He is a car nut just like us!

I had to go get the magazine after AngM018 pointed out the differance between Brunei and Dubai. I stand corrected....the article is on "the world's leading Porsche dealer:" Khalifa Al Nabooda "no sand dune is to high"

I can see the tourism slogans now forming on a white board near you: "Dubai, get a Porsche for your virgins, come again"

Back around 1998/1999 Mercedes Benz sent the fine Sultan 7 M-classes for his birthday. One can assume, one for each day of the week. I do not know the specifics of the transaction i.e. if they were a gift from MB or he actually paid for them. Before you accuse me of hearsay, I actually shipped the vehicles to him. I believe he receives cars like you and I receive junk mail, unsolicited and often. I also had some business dealings with an independent contractor who worked near the Sultan's collection. As witnessed by him, the Sultan does indeed have a swarm of people who do nothing but drive these cars and keep them in perfect running order at all times. It's a never ending car show!!

I sometimes wonder, as the gearhead car freak that I am, what I would do with unlimited funds and honestly, in my wildest of imaginations I can not justify having so many cars or material things in general. Then again, I'm not royalty am I? I just think you could do a lot of people a lot of good with such resources. Enough of my bleeding heart speech, party at his place!!
