Default Wayne at Pelicanparts is fixing up a 959.

I just happened to wander over to the Pelicanparts.com forum yesterday. Hadn't checked it out for months. Anyway, Wayne (the owner) just bought a 959 in need of a lot of work. I think I would stop short of calling it a restoration, but he's got a lot of little things to fix and a few major things like some drive system electrical gremlins. Hard to believe the previous owner let the car go like this.

He's been posting lots of details of his work with lots of pics right down to the simple stuff like replacing seat and window switches. Neat stuff for those who like to live auto restorations vicariously. And, you get to see the guts of the pinnacle of the 911 icon. Lots of things on this car that you won't see anywhere else.

I think it's pretty cool anyway. Thought I'd give a heads up. I didn't see that anyone had posted about it.

Thanks for the heads up! I don't usually spend too much time on the Pelican forums so I would have missed it if not for your post!

it is unfortunate that many very high end car's original owners so ignore proper care & maintainance. in effect, it takes advantage of the subsequent owners. the positive side is that a special car may fall in value so much that a "good owner" might acquire it (but they'd best have a very thorough PPI, lotsa cash reserves & be prepared for suprises). minor lesson... never assume a confident, wealthy owner took care of his car (even if it looks good - especially!)... confirming independent evidence must be produced.

Yeah, it's the same old story, just shifted to a higher tax bracket.

It probably becomes a lot easier when $10,000 repair estimates start rolling in.

Aren't they illegal to drive on the street in America? Still, I would kill to have one sitting in my garage...

nope, new rules apply on old super-cars now (except the one about large amounts of cash), so the streets should be filled w/ all 20-30 or so in the US.
