Default Fuel Pump Help Please!

Car is an 83 911sc

So, I decided to clean the whole fuel system starting from the front of the car. I have a couple questions on testing and replacement parts.

1. Bentley says the pump should pull 4-6 amps. Over that and it's not efficient. Mine is 7.5-8amps. How bad is that? Replacement bad? i jumpered the fuel pump relay and measured between the + wire and terminal at the pump (black wire).

2. My pump is Bosch # 0580254967. I've done a search on here, pelican and google with no conclusion. Is this Bosch pump the same as part # 91160810202? Are there any other known pumps to use, like a Walbro?

Thanks,
David

I wouldn't spend 300 on a new one that's for sure. I'd look for a CIS pump from a compatible car.
As finicky as cis is I would make sure fuel delivery is correct, especially if there are other problems you're looking for, or trying to fix.
thats just my opinion

You got it. I don't want to spend $300. So, I'll just replace with the pump I currently have($130), if nobody can answer my questions.

Just how did you measure the current flow? My 78 911's fuel pump (solenoid/plunger type) draws HUGE current flow SPIKES and I doubt that anything other than the old d'arsonval(?) meter movement would really sufficiency average the flow rate.

I measured using Bentley's instructions, that is bypassing the pump relay with a switch and reading amps with the multimeter leads on the positive pump wire and positive pump terminal. The negative wire still attached. The pump has been getting noisier, also. The 7-8amps was continuous.

Regardless, I'm going to replace the pump. So, I'm really just interested in Question #2.
Thanks

0.580.254.967 is the one you want. Fits '80-83 SC. Same as the Porsche number you provided. If it's drawing more and more current AND getting noisy it's best to replace it rather then risk getting stuck somewhere.

just to clarify ..

when measuring current the meter has to be in series. ie disconect the positive terminal of the pump connect one lead to it from your meter , connect the other end of the meter to the open wire from the pump.

The current has to run through the pump. Make sure the ammeter is set for 10 amps or you could blow the fuse in the meter or the whole meter.

Yes, that's what I did and what Bentley recommends, though it just says, "the black wire," which happens to be the positive wire. Plus, I have an electrical engineer friend, who confirms what I do with wiring, thank god.

no. just the pump running, as instructed by Bentley with a jumper switch, like for testing fuel pressures.

I think I found my pump. Any feedback on this? Walbro P587
