Question removing thermostat from oil cooler

My oil cooler fan in my 83 911sc has quit working and I believe it has to do with the thermostat or relay? Can I wire the fan direct and just switch on when temps rise? This is the updated carrera cooler. I plan on running a few events at VIR this year and I like to drive the car at high RPMs. Is this cooling enough or should I add the air duct that replaces the signal light also? The car does not run hot now but I would like to keep it that way.
Thanks for any recommendations.

Scott,

More reference - look on tech.rennlist.com under 911 engines where there are several articles on engine cooling. The answer to your question is "maybe". Your Carrera cooler may work, it may not. I had a similar setup, and needed to go to a front valance mounted cooler to stay cool under track conditions. Others do fine.

You can, btw, wire the fan into a switch on the dash to manually turn it on and off.
