Insurance companies for 500 miles per year?
Can anyone recommend a decent insurance company for an '87 911 currently being driving less than 500 miles a year? My car is sitting in my PA garage while I'm sitting in CA. I've got USAA today but it's running $1,200/yr to insure. Good driving record, etc. (i.e., have not been caught doing what a good 911 should do). Thank you. Dan

Mercury works great for me here in California. My wife and I have a chevy, ford, nissan, and the Porsche. The 911 is less than $1.00 per day. $320.00 per year I think. The trick is to tell them it is a collectable, not transportation, and not a sportscar.

To add a side note to above....We called our agent everytime we had a VIN# we were interested in and got the yes or no on the cheep price with every new prospect. (dog food costs me more than my Porsche) (my reef tank costs me more than my Porsche) (my lawn and palm trees cost me more than my Porsche) (no getting around the fact that the six kids cost me alot more than the Porsche)

Are you stoiring it for long periods of time and then driving it a few months or is the 500 miles spread over the enitre year (like 40/miles/month)?
If it is only driven a few months a year, talk to your agent about reducing the insurance when it is parked in your garage. With my policy, I can tell the agent my car is "sleeping", my rates get very low (no need for coverage for moving risks), and then I can tell him I am putting it on the road again and my rates go up to the normal level. I have to wait (I think) at least 30 days between each nap.

I have classic car INS, I pay 280 a year for 4000k, and a agreed stated value of $20,000. Hagerty denied me because I slipped on the paperwork and stated i wanted to track it eventually. Classic car didnt care but made me sign a waiver that hey arent responsible for on track stuff but would cover paddock damage.

It's 5K per year allowed mileage, w/ the usual limitations--car must be garaged, not driven to work, etc. Deductible is $500.
My problem w/ Leland is that they will not insure modified cars. If your car is not bone stock, forget it with them. The only 911 I have that qualified was my '67S, I kept the '68 and the '73 on my Allstate policy since they both have engine transplants and roll bar/cages.
My other problem is that in the last 3 years, the '67S has doubled in value, and the original $18K is not nearly sufficient to cover a total loss, but they would not agree to raise coverage beyond $22K without a fight (formal appraisal, etc.). I am selling it anyway, so I didn't push the issue.
