How many Ruby Red cabriolets made in 1983?
#16
Well, I guess I kind of have an answer to my question now, though it is not really the one I was looking for...
Adrian Streather was nice enough to email me and clue me in a little. Basically, it comes down to this. The number of cars produced in each available color is a piece of data that is and will not be available. The reason as I now understand it is it is because it is tied to the VIN, and if the data to determine these numbers were released, it would compromise owners identities.
I still admit I don't quite get it... it seems like it would not be a hard thing for Porsche to just release data on the colors, but whatever I guess.
As a side note, last night while trying to research this, I came across an ad from July in the Knoxville area for a Ruby Red 1983 911 Cabriolet. The car was identical to mine in everyway. So I know there are at least 2... Ahhh, the sweet smell of progress!

I found this fairly interesting... Aside from the earlier version of Ruby Red (60's?), 1983 and 1984 were the only 2 years the color was offered, according to paintscratch.com

Since we are on subject of Ruby red cabs from 83......
I found this bad boy sitting at $15k OBO with 66k on the clock.
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/car/390609954.html
Don't know if it sold or not but I would take fair interior to get a excellent body and mechanical for that price.....
Someone here own it?

Nice color BTW.
If you don't mind post a pic of your car, I want to see interior as well.
I sent an e-mail on the SC Cab, we'll see if it's still forsale.
BTW, 1986951's SC has to be one of the nicest colors I have seen

Thanks Vino! All compliments gratefully accepted! I guess it is a 'Love it or Hate it" color, but this is my second 911 in Platinum, and I think it looks very subtle and "rich" at the same time...
However, that said, I would take an SC in Ruby Red most any day of the week! Most of my Porsches have been in either the Red or Silver/Platinum paint colors... just stuck in a rut! I did have a black/black 951 and followed it with a black/black 968, which looked good on those cars, IMHO... very "Dark Side Of The Moon" sort of paint schemes, with black center Fuchs on the '51...
BTW, I have a set of like new Design90's that I occasionally think about mounting on my SC, just for kicks, and after seeing them on V8_ranch's Cab, I am tempted to make that my weekend tire swap project... The "organic" wheel style sort of modernizes the old SC!
I assume V8 used spacer/adaptors with his wheels? I have a like new set of 1" and 1.5" H&R's to mount, so all should go well, at least for a trial fit...

That is a very nice color scheme. I love those 83 SC Cabs.... It begs the question - if you needed to paint the D90 wheels black (for car color balance, of course!) then why not just put on the original Fuchs? Are those D90s 17s?

Pictures look great!
Just on coincidence there is another Ruby red cab I saw in a Wisconsin PCA member site, don't have a link though.
Speaking about paints and I am sure this has been asked enough times, are all the 78-89 cars clear coated? Can anyone specify which years and colors got clear coat, thanks.
I am not exactly fond of using polishing pads and having the color pigment destroy the polishing pads and non clear coated cars.

I think the "Paintscratch" website will state which colors are the two stage clearcoated paints...
Metallics were, for sure... not sure about solids colors..
Now back to the Design 90's... Hmmmm... I like the way they fill out the wheel wells...
Now I'm thinking that if I repainted them in body color...
And no, they are not 17's; 16 x 7's and 16 x 8's ...17's are a bit "hard" on the SC's, with such a narrow tire sidewall... just my humble opinion!

I just got an email from someone at Porsche in Germany this morning. They basically reasserted that there are no records in existence that sub-categorize the annual production numbers. Guess we'll never know for sure. Since starting this thread, I have found or been informed of 3 others, so now we are up to 4...
Oh well...
