Post cooling suggestions

I'm not sure what solution is best for my car/use. Living in NH we don't have a lot of heat but on those hot days I start pushing 250. It is a stock 2.7 with no cooling [not even the trombone]. Don't use the a/c when I need it because it obviously further cranks up the heat. Would merely going to a trombone cooler be worth it or should I go all the way with a radiator unit? Also any experience with the simple solutions such as the finned oil filter and/or sump drain gadgets, they seem like snake oil but???

When I had my 2.7 I had the trombone oil cooler, no catalytic converters, and a Bursch exhaust (if that matters). The temp stayed mostly at 180 and with DE would go up to 210/230.

FWIW, now I have a 3.2, same oil cooler, no cats, and same exhaust. My normal temp is around 210 and goes to 250 with DE.

I'd put one of the Carrera coolers on your car. The lines and cooler will be $$$$ so you may want to consider some sort of aftermarket setup (Mocal).

The lines arent cheap if you buy them new either. I would look for a good used set or maybe try the Elephant Racing finned lines. They look like a nice product. No affiliation. The Mocal setup might be the trick as "the loop" might not be the long term solution either.

I've got a stock '84 with a 3.2. Runs fine everywhere else but on hot days at the track it gets up to 250 (maybe + but when it gets that hot I shift to a lower gear to keep the revs and temp. down). Anyway, I put on one of the oil filter collars and I think it is lowering the temp about 7 degrees F on the street but not at the track. Not a bad bang for the buck ~$40.

w,

FWIW, I replaced the trombone on my 81SC with the 28 tube brass cooler, and it made a substantial difference (see my post 'hot oil temps'). If you're not going to track your car, that may be a cost-effective solution to your temp probs, and you can usually find a used one.
