Post KBB value on Porsches- ??? Why so low?

I'm in the market for an SC and I thought I would check out www.kbb.com to see what they are saying an 82' 911 SC goes for. They had 3 prices- $5,900 trade in, $8,200 private party sale, and $11,100 retail. My question is why is that soooo far off from Bruce Anderson's quote of $14,636 for an 82 SC in Good condition?
I don't think someone would sell their SC for KBB's prices unless the car was in poor shape. I have found a few cars around $10-12K that are pretty decent, but not much lower. Please help explain. Thanks.

I would have quite a stable of Porsches in my garage if I could buy them at KBB prices.

Understand that the banks use KBB pricing for setting used car loan values. Insurance companies may use them too for settling damage considered "totalled".

Don't rely on them - they do not reflect "market" pricing.

It's odd. I just bought a 1998 Jaguar, and the KBB value seemed excessively high, not low. I paid about $18,000 less than book.

The flipside, though, is that cars with a die-hard following (like 911s) seem to get priced ridiculously below their real-world value.

Please keep in mind that the KBB (Kelly Blue Book) or Black Book or NADA guide DO NOT actually buy cars. They merely represent a collection of dealer auction prices from around the country. Bruce Anderson, on the other hand, follows recent P-car sales around the country and puts numbers on the cars based more on person to person transactions. There are also many other factors that you must consider such as location, tires, chain tensioner update, misc. repairs needed, tires, paint, interior, etc.A Porsche is worth whatever you or someone else is willing to put into it.

I recently purchased a very new 1983 911SC coupe, all black, factory wing, sports seats 16" Fuchs with 70,000 miles on it for $15,500 which I felt was a very good deal.

Hope this helps......
