Hi:

Newbie, here. The 911SC has always been a car I admire.

I was wondering what is the difference between the 1983 US model SC and a ROW 83 SC, apart from the US (180hp) and ROW (204hp)?

Is it possible to make a US model to European (204hp) spec. and still pass emissions?

Also, what are the market prices for a decent 83SC? And where should I look to find the most selection. I am in Southern California.

The RoW car had higher compression (9.8:1), and no Catalytic converter or Lambda. In CA there would be no way to do the changes and still meet emissions.

Regarding value, contact "carsthatmatter.com", or contact Sports Car Market Magazine and order their Pocket Price Guide. Unlike some "price guides" that claim to know it all about Porsches, both of the above do enormous research into the worlds of auctions and private party sales for virtually all collectible cars, and state clearly that a guide is only a starting point, and exceptions exist.

The 81-83 ROW SC's run a higher compression engine which is the primary difference in power. You could pick up most of the difference in power in a USA car with a good set of heat exchangers (SSI for example) and muffler, but I don't know if that's legal in California.Only other differences in the cars will be minor such as side marker lights on the front fenders, colors and interiors.

81-83 ROW cars are great running cars-

Nice 81-83 SC's should be in the 15-20,000 range for a coupe or Targa.

To add to genripper's comments. No it is not legal to use the SSI heat exchangers in CA, but plenty of people use them and then swap the original exhaust back on the car every two years just for the smog test. When that passes, the SSI's go back on.

Pablo, are you looking for an SC? I know of 2 here in the area. one in Montclair, one in Ontario. you gotta check out the '86 factory turbo look white/wine coupe in Fullerton at $29,995 . Anyway, it's hard to find an SC in autotrader with the '81 cut off. I'd be glad to help you look.

Seems that the 84 Carrera is the same car but with a 3.2 liter engine. Don't know if it is a heavier car, but seems the Carrera is easier to find than an SC.

Also I was looking at an 83 911SC coupe, specifically, as it came with the 160mph speedo and was the last year of the SC models, with all the updates already in the SC model run.
