Default 3.2 Cooling Upgrades

Hi Everyone,

I am a newbie to Rennlist.

Last year I bought my first Porsche which is should be clear from my name it is an 85, 911. I am really loving the car and have been using it as a daily driver until it got hot here

I live in Arizona and would like to use it more during our high temps.

Are there any modifications that can be made to the oil cooling system that will make the car run cooler during the hot weather?

Thanks
Dean

What temp is your car getting up to? When the gauge needle is at about 9:00 o'clock can you feel that the front oil cooler is very hot to the touch?

I do not run the AC and the temp gets up to about 10 oclock or the upper line and I then get uncomfortable. The air temp outside is around 100-110.

I do not have the car with me today but I will do the check that you suggest. Is this to ensure that there is full oil flow through the system.

The internal thermostat opens at 176F. That oil cooler is located on the engine itself, bottom right side by the cylinder. The external thermostat opens 3 degrees later and is located in front of the right rear wheel. There are 2 tube that run the length of the car up to the front of the car where there is an external oil cooler. That oil cooler is located in front of the right front wheel.

Do a search on this thread and you'll find plenty of mods, including a fan switch from BMW that turns a fan on the oil cooler at a lower temperature than the standard 244F on the later Carreras. But Pete is right to start asking about weather or not your oil lines are hot in the first place, since most cars' external thermostat does not open at the correct temperature set point.
