Default NEW WHEELS..what tires now???

I just picked up a set of 16 x 7 and 16 x 9 BBS in MINT COND for 1600 off of pelican, refurbished by Al reed...they are beautiful.....almost too nice to go on my SC....

Now what are the max widths I can run on these bad boys...

Found a set of Sumotomos HTRZ for 280 shipped from tirerack 225 X 45 and 245 X 45

How wide can I go in the back??

Will have a set of spacers and a set of track cup 2's avail if anyone wants them soon also-chris

Nice wheels. I run Toyo RA-1's on 16x7 and 16x9 Fuchs. Sizes are 205/55/16 and 245/45/16 with no rubbing at all.

Nice wheels. When I bought my '85, they came with those same wheels on it, but they were pretty pitted. I sold them on ebay for 600 bucks I think. If I had known about Al, I would have sent them to him for refinishing. Actually, I didn't even know he worked on that type of wheel until your post! The spoke portions are almost ruberized.....did he redo all of that too?

255's out back are pretty common in 17" sizes, if you can find the proper ratio for matching the dia., etc.

I had 17" Cups on the car for awhile, but even replacing the stock 16" sizes from Nitto 450's to Kumho MX's made a HUGE grip difference. I also had the MX's on the 17's as well and it was amazing.

BTW, those are incredible looking wheels. Would give a nut for those in gold for my black '84.

Not many choices available anymore in 16's.
205's or 225's upfront, with 245's rear.
Note...if racing, there are Hoosiers up to 275, Kumho to 265 & Toyo to 255, but they are also slightly taller.

I ran the Sumitomo's in 205 and 245 x 17" on 996 TT's and found them to be especially sticky, but still wore pretty well for a "Gum Ball" tire. Price was good, and if I replaced them every 30K, it all probably worked out as compared to a higher mileage but more expensive tire. Got mine from the Tire Rack also...

Thx guys...cant wait to see how these gorgous wheels look on the car. Do you guys think the price was right for the wheels?

16X9's rears, mint cond. BBS for $1600? yeah, I'd say that was a decent price.

Put it this way, had they been gold at that price, I'd have put off my suspension job, most likely.

Glad to see folks warming back up to the bbs wheels - they are light and strong. 16.4 on the fronts - 17.2 lbs on the rears. I have a set of 8x16 in 23mm offset and 9 x 16 in 10mm offset that were also redone by al reed.

Pre-finish

back from al reed

You get the "Miami Vice" award. Nothing says "living in the 80's" like a new set of BBS. You just cant get any better. It says "My winter house is in West Palm Beach"

It's a timeless classic design.
I really think they're still the worst to clean, though...
