Default Lightest wheels?

Does anybody know how much my 6"x16" Fuchs weigh and what other wheels may be lighter for the track?

I also have a set of D90s to consider but with tires on them it's hard to guage how much of the weight is just the rim.

Amazingly, fuchs prove to be the lightest wheels, unfortunately not available in 17". The 16x7, 16x8 weigh around 16-17 lbs. When shopping for track wheels and looking to keep unsprung corner weight down, Fikse came out the lightest around 17 lbs. They are 3 pc forged. I've heard Forgeline are also light. Stay away from the cast wheels they can weigh on the line of 26 lbs ...

Thanks for the great charts and comments. It looks like I should stick with my 16"x6" Fuchs, and maybe even use my 14"x5.5" Fuchs for autocross or winter tires.

My BBS wheels (RS) are between 1.5 to 2 lbs less than my same size fuchs 8x16 and 9x16.

It's very hard to find anything lighter or stronger than the Fuchs,--and the reason why they are so popular. They are a terrific wheel. Being forged, they will bend before they break and are significantly lighter than any cast equivalent.

Fuchs are great tires. I do worry about 30 year old wheels running DOT-R tires.

+1 Eric.
Save the fuchs for street use and appearance and find some lightweight forged wheels for track, preferably 17".

Good idea. However, many of the competitors in San Diego, myself included, use 15" fuchs for the track. Yes ... I said 15". They will shorten your gear-ratios with a higher rev's-per-mile wheel ratio than 16's or 17's, and you can take advantage of the extra little "umph" of torque from the shorter roll-out. Also, they lower the car a tad more, allowing for tighter handling on the smaller, tighter A-X tracks. They are also a tad lighter than the 16's. If you run 17's they'll give you grip galore, but you may notice a taller gearing effect ... this may equate to a slower exit from the corners.

I run 15" X 8" Fuchs. They fill the fenders, give the car a big footprint and lower profile, and because of their apparent height, don't rub. The only problem I have with them is occasionally scraping the chin spoiler getting to the track.

Currently 3 SC's, and 3 Carerra's (1980 series Carrera's) are running this configuration in San Diego, with class-winning times.

Just my 2-cents.

Eric,
can you post pics of your 18" on your 911?
Thanks.
