Default Grey Market Insurance

I have had AAA insurance on all my vehicles for many years and am considering a change to IDS Property and Casualty, they have great rates. However, they will not insure my Euro 1986 carrera so I need to find an option. Any ideas? Thanks, Curt

I insured a triple Z 85 Carrera with State Farm. The only thing out of the ordinary is that they made me bring the car in for some photographs and to verify the VIN, and I had to have it "professionally" assesed for replacement value. It helped that the car had once been insured in another state by State Farm.

You might call Hagerty Classic Insurance, though your car may not be old enough. They insured my 76 930 for $200/year, though I am sure you could not get that kind of rate living in CA.

PS: I have not heard the term "gray market" in many years.

Steve, thank you so much for the tip on Hagerty. It so happens that they cut off at 1986 so if I had had a 1987 they could not write it. I can get full coverage with no deductible for comprehensive and collision for only $405 per year!! That is a great deal, thanks..... Curt

American Family is insuring my 82 ZZZ with no questions asked. I didn't even have to get it appraised like my 78.

I insured my 81 Euro Targa with Liberty Mutual, full coverage for about $660/year.

They kicked the vin at first, but with some explaining and e-mailing a couple of pictures of the car, vin plate and importer's plate on the door jamb, no problems.

Progressive did mine, but if 86 is now the cut-off with Haggerty's I might be switching! How many miles did they allow you per year?

I did not ask about any requirements for maximum mileage per year as I put about 3000 miles per year on my car which is certainly allowable. I tried other insurance agencies and Hagerty was by far the best. I really like no deductible on comp and collision. Curt
