Question Oil in Air Intake

Hi Guys,

I opned the air cleaner box in my '73 911 with CIS and found alot of oil and chunks of a yellowish gunk. I wiped it up and dried the box. The same yellow gunk was in my oil reservior and I removed what I could.

I have noticed that ocasionally, my car will get "stuck" in a 2000 rpm idle. I am thinking that maybe some of this yellow stuff got on the air flow sensor. Can I use a spray cleaner (like Gunk) to try to wash the stuff off or will I be adding to my woes?

Thanks,

It sounds like you may be overfilling the oil. It is not uncommon for the overflow to move into the airbox. The yellow gunk may be moisture condensation. Do you go on long spirited drives or is the car manly used on short trips? The latter commonly caused the yellow gunk.

I would not use gunk to clear the throttle body. Gunk is used for degreasing external parts. I use a spray carb clearner to clean the same surfaces.

Good luck.
