Removing Tach WTF ?
I removed all my instruments during my refurb to replace all the bulbs. I now want a "tap" to light up my voltmeter I installed last year. I have found it to be a great piece of mind gage so it will stay. I find my self looking for it at night so I need to light it . The wires all come togther behind the tach but do I have to pull the steering wheel to get the tach out ? I can't get the small plastic cowling cover off without removing the wheel can I and I don't have enough room to get the tach out .. Porsche should have invented tilt for the SC :-(
If that is the case screw it and I will do it the next time that upper bushing fails and my wheel starts to wobble.

you are looking for a 12volt lights on power source.....all of your instuments have that....the clock comes out super eazy, try that. or are you wanting a nipple not just a wire to cut into?

I can get mine out with the wheel in, but I've got the 930S wheel and the spacer. It seems to me however, I took it out before with the old Carrera 3 spoke wheel.

Come on Ice,
Steering wheel is a one minute job. Is it a Standard wheel? And yes the wheel has to come off to remove the cowling. There are two screws behind the wheel.
Why don't you grab 12v for the light off the lighting circuit for the clock or fuel guage?? Or for that matter the lights that are in the ventilation control under the dash??
I think the lights in the instuments all use 6mm flat connectors so you can 'tap' them using something like this or this.

I know I am getting lazy .... don't feel like pulling the wheel. The grounds use the piggy backed blades but the actual black/ blue wire goes right into the socket....
oh by the way Doug I think you are on to something .... someone obviously took out my 50K odometer and put in the 200K odometer in there now :-)
oh okay screw it , I'm going out to take the wheel off ......yous guys drive me crazy ...

Okay Frank is right as usual ... if you go back far enough there is a connection that feeds all the instrument lights behind the tach, I can piggy back it here . I atached a pic so others can see. This is a great spot to hook anything into the lighting system with a low load.
Now if only I had marked my wheel position before removing ..
