Hello Guys,
My 1989 3.2 Carrera used to get Mobil 1 10W40 semi-synthetic engine oil for its entire life (90.000 miles). I live in a part of the world with a moderate climate, mild to cold winters, warm summers.
But, now I can't seem to get hold of this oil type anymore here in Belgium. My Porsche mechanic tells me to switch to Mobil 5W40 fully synthetic, but a local specialist in vintage racing cars tells me never to do this. He says using synthetic oil in an engine that always had semi-synthetic, will "clean" the cylinders, which could cause the resulting particles to give blockages or wear.
What should I do? Stick to the semi-synthetic 10W40 and change brand, or go for the Mobil 5W40 synthetic? All advice is welcome.

Your car has been used to and running fine for 90,000 miles, so if you could find the same oil elsewhere or overseas, then I would stick with it. If it ain't broke...
If you can't find or don't want to pay for shipping, then you can switch to any top grade oil. It's the oil's detergents and additives that make most of the difference, not necessarily the synthetic vs. semi-syn.
Look for an oil that is a close replacement to what you're running now (by contacting Mobile) and run it without worry.
