Default 86 3.2 911 oil questions please help

I moved over from the 951 site and still own an 86 951. I just purchsed an 86 911 with the 3.2. Unfortunately, no owners manuel was included and I noticed the oil needle next to the fuel guage was in the red at 65 mph and went up on stop, however, The oil pressure needle was in the high 3 low 4 range when cruising. When I inspected the dipstick after the 190 degree warm up the oil level was on the lower end but in operation range. I have 107,000 miles and wonder what weight and type of oil should I be using. I am in South Florida and cold weather in not an issue here. Also, how low am I if the oil level is about half and inch into the operating range levels(low end).
Thanks
George

okay, if you're 1/2 up from the bottom of the dip stick you're maybe down a full quart or maybe 3/4 qt. While driving the oil level gauge will read in the red, this is normal and should rise at an idle. I don't pay too much attention to the oil level gauge - I just keep up using the dip stick. I've got a 84 911 with 130K miles and I use about a quart of oil every 1000 to 1500 miles. Sound like you have good oil pressure at crusing speeds. If you have no major leaks I would use syn oil, but if you do have leaks or its almost time for a engine rebuild just use regular oil.

You're fine, but just need to add a little oil...I doubt you're lower more than say 1/2 qt. or so, but with 13 qts total, no worries, just don't overfill, or you'll clear the Everglades of mosquitos ! I'd use a good dino (20w50), or Mobil 1 (15w50) all year in So. Fla.

3rd that. 2nd choice would be M1 15-50 EP. You might want to check out the threads on oil additives.

"I have 107,000 miles and wonder what weight and type of oil should I be using."

Most likely the previous owner/s used a non-synthetic, so don't change now and
use a 20/50 petrol type, e.g. Castrol.
