Default What's this project '74 911 worth?

My dad has a 1974 911 that has been rebuilt but is not in 100% running condition. The body is red and in very good shape - it was repainted ~10 years ago and has mostly sat in a garage since. New rotors, rebuilt calipers, new master cylinder, SS lines. Suspension is old. Interior is in good shape, but with the infamous dash fissure. The engine has basically zero miles on it after a rebuild (done by him & I, machining work outsourced) with all the important upgrades (carrera tensioners, turbo valve cover, time certs / dilvars, etc etc), has S cams and stock CIS injection. The engine turns over but idles poorly and is down on power. It has sat in the garage in this state for over 2 years because he simply has no time and I live many states away and cannot help.

My parents are moving across the country and the car needs to be sold within ~2 months in its current condition. What do you guys think its worth and where should he advertise? ebay?

I would say that you should invest a little money to figure out if it can run, chances are its something small and eaily fixable. That being said, you will get top dollar if the fix is simple rather than advertising a "non-running car". Sounds like you could get a lot of money if you fix it since it has just been rebuilt.

in VA but they're moving to CA so they could potentially ship it with them (paid for anyways). I told my dad the same thing about trying to get it fixed but he kinda just wants to get rid of it. Can you guys at least give me an estimate for the car in it's current condition vs if it were running. Car is beautiful, such a shame =\ I was going to take it, but I have a heavily modded B5 S4 which is already too much of a headache for me.

just remember that every porsche is a $20,000 porsche. you may only get $10,000, but to sort it out and make it perfect it may cost the buyer another huge chunk of change. if they are coming to sothern california they could probebly doudle the money generated by this car. we have no less that 7 porsches between my house and the 2 blocks to my mothers. they are everywhere. punch 91701 - porsche - 911 - 100 miles into autotrader. we all think we have the money for them 'cause our $200,000 homes became $800,000 homes in the last realestate run up.

thake care and send pictures. low resolution is good. dusty is good.

Where in Virginia is the car located? I might want to take a look at it.

Sounds like you have a lot of work in this car but you'll have to take a beating cause of a bum engine. I'd take it to a mechanic, have him put a degree wheel on it and check the cam timing. I'm betting that's the thing you guys got wrong. I think you could do this on an aircooled with the engine intact.

Agreed.

Did you notice that G-50's price range jumps quite a bit if the car is running? That's very true. If your dad can get the car running even half ways decently for a moderate amount of money (let's say $1000), it's essentially free money on the back end when the car gets sold. Running cars always bring more money.

You gotta spend money to make money.

I can see why maybe your dad wants to just dump the car, but why toss away the extra cash if it's a reasonable fix? At least investigate the engine issue...

Good Luck,

Jay
